Fix: spray and let the perfume dry naturally. If you want to share a spray between wrists, dab them together lightly rather than rubbing, though it is better to simply spray each one.

Rubbing also transfers perfume from one wrist to the other in an uneven way, and the warmth can make the alcohol smell more noticeable for a moment. It is one of those habits learned from watching others, rather than one with a real benefit.

Mistake 2: Spraying on dry or unclean skin

Spraying directly into the hair from close range is a related error. Alcohol can dry strands and concentrated perfume can smell overpowering near your face. Spray a brush instead, or mist from a distance.

Using a very old or damaged sprayer can cause a similar problem, delivering a jet instead of a mist. If your bottle sprays unevenly, decant into a good atomiser.

Mistake 5: Overspraying due to nose blindness

After a short time, your brain stops noticing your own perfume, even though others still can. Many women keep adding sprays and end up overwhelming everyone nearby.

Fix: decide your spray count in advance and stick to it. Ask someone close if they can still smell you before reapplying.

A related mistake is wearing the same heavy perfume in every setting. A rich oud may be perfect for a winter wedding but too much for a small cabin or a hospital visit. Matching perfume and quantity to the occasion is part of applying it well.

Another is forgetting that perfume builds up on clothes. If you wear the same jacket or stole several days running and spray each time, it can become very strong.
