Timing and application

Non-AC buses and local trains are hot and crowded, so sweat is inevitable; focus on clean skin and breathable clothes, with minimal fragrance.

Autos and two-wheelers expose you to sun, dust and pollution. Perfume can attract dust and evaporate quickly in wind and heat. Apply lightly to covered areas or clothing. In cabs and private cars, which are small, enclosed spaces with AC, a little perfume goes a long way. Apply before entering, never inside.

Two-wheeler riders face a particular challenge. A helmet traps heat and sweat around the head, and wind and dust hit the face and neck. Skip perfume on the neck and face if you ride, and apply a light spray to your torso under clothing instead. Once you arrive and remove your helmet, a quick freshen-up with a wipe and a single spray restores your scent.

Arriving at work fresh

When you arrive, take a few minutes in the washroom to freshen up. Blot sweat with a tissue, use a gentle unscented wipe on your neck and arms, and let your skin dry. If needed, apply a single spray of your perfume or a lighter office scent. Do not spray over sweat, which can turn fragrance sour.

Refresh in a private space, such as a washroom, rather than in transit. Blot first, then apply lightly. If you are heading to an evening event, you can switch to a slightly warmer scent at this point.

For the journey home, consider whether you need perfume at all. If you are going straight home, a refresh is optional. If you are heading to a dinner, gym or social event, a quick freshen-up and a single spray of an evening scent prepares you without overwhelming fellow passengers.
