Cushion

Cushions have rounded corners and a soft, pillow-like outline, with a romantic, vintage feel. Modern cushions often have a "crushed ice" look with many small sparkles, while others have larger, chunkier facets. Both hide inclusions fairly well, so VS2 to SI1 eye-clean is often enough.

Cushions can retain colour, particularly in larger sizes, so many buyers choose G to H for white metals and H to I for yellow gold. Emerald and Asscher

Colour is also more visible, so G or higher is common in white metals, and H in yellow gold. Emerald cuts look elegant and elongated on the finger, and their faceting can make them look slightly larger face-up than some shapes. Check polish and symmetry, since misaligned steps are easy to see.

Marquise
